The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of India has warned people about the increasing number of food poisoning cases due to consumption of sweets. With the arrival of festivals in India, there has been a rise in the demand of sweets.
Various parts of Maharashtra like Pune, Solhapur and Kolhapur districts have witnessed increase in the food poisoning cases. These cases have been confirmed of being infected with the contaminated sweets. Previous week, the FDA has prohibited the sale of varai cereal, which is demanded during Navratri. The varai cereal has been found to be the main reason for the cause of food poisoning.
As per Dr. Suresh Deshmukh, Assistant Commissioner (Food), FDA, “Food from crowded stalls must be avoided as the chances of disease causing bacteria spreading in congested places is high. Most of the water-borne illnesses are caused by the food handlers themselves”.
