Eating & Drinking Safely
Enjoying the local culture and cuisine is all part and parcel of your travel experience with the different smells and exotic ingredients on offer. Unfortunately many infections can come from consuming contaminated food and drink such as giardia, salmonella, shigella, campylobacter, cryptosporidium, hepatitis A, typhoid fever, cholera ... Don't order drinks with ice freezing does not kill bacteria, do not eat salads or unpeelable fruit and vegetables. Food that has been left around exposed to flies is to be avoided at all costs due to the high likelihood of tape worm cysts. Boiled water is safe and will kill most infectious organisms. Use electrolyte replacement packs in the event of travel diarrhoea to help prevent dehydration. In severe cases seek medical attention.
